Langtang Valley Trek Overview
A classic Langtang teahouse trek with real Himalayan altitude, strong local culture, and an accessible overland approach from Kathmandu.
Langtang Valley Trek is one of the most rewarding short treks in Nepal. The standard route starts with an overland drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, then follows the Langtang Khola through forest, suspension bridges, and traditional mountain settlements toward Kyanjin Gompa.
The trek lies inside Langtang National Park, a protected area known for red panda habitat, alpine vegetation, and a strong Tamang cultural landscape. As you gain height, the valley opens dramatically and the trail passes mani walls, chortens, yak pastures, and rebuilt settlements that reflect the resilience of the region after the 2015 earthquake.
Kyanjin Gompa, at about 3,870 meters, is the main upper valley base for acclimatization and side hikes. From here, trekkers usually climb either Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for wider views of Langtang Lirung, surrounding glaciers, and the open upper valley.
With a typical duration of 7 to 10 days and a highest hiking point of about 4,984 meters on Tserko Ri, this trek gives you a real Himalayan experience without domestic flights or technical climbing. It is a strong choice for active walkers who want scenery, culture, and a route that still feels grounded in local mountain life.

We receive you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to rest and get ready for the trek.
We leave the city early and drive north into the hills. The road is long but the scenery starts changing quickly as we move closer to the mountains.
The trail follows the river through forest and small settlements. It is a steady first day of walking with some suspension bridges along the way.
We keep climbing through the valley as the forest begins to thin. The views feel more open and the mountains start coming closer.
This is a shorter trekking day, which gives us time to settle in at Kyanjin. The village sits in a wide alpine setting with beautiful mountain views all around.
We start early for the main viewpoint day above Kyanjin. If weather and conditions are favorable, Tserko Ri gives one of the best panoramas in the region at about 4,984 meters, with wide views of Langtang Lirung, surrounding peaks, and glacier terrain.
After our high point in Kyanjin, we descend through familiar villages and open valley sections back toward the forest line.
We continue down the same valley to finish the trekking part of the trip. The lower air feels easier and the day is more relaxed.
We return to Kathmandu by road. After hotel check-in, you can enjoy a shower, good meal, and a comfortable final evening in the city.
Depending on your flight time, we transfer you to the airport. If you are staying longer in Nepal, we can also help with extra plans.
This trek is a good fit for active travelers who want a real mountain walk but do not want a very long expedition-style trip. If you are comfortable walking several hours a day, it is a realistic option.
The Langtang Valley Trek is moderate. There are a few long uphill days and the altitude makes the walk feel harder, but the trail itself is not technical.
On this itinerary the highest hiking point is Tserko Ri at about 4,984 meters, while Kyanjin Gompa is the overnight stop at a much lower altitude. That makes the side hike more manageable from an acclimatization point of view.
Nepal Tourism Board lists March to May and October to November as the best seasons for Langtang National Park. These months usually offer the clearest mountain views and the most reliable trekking conditions.
It is helpful to keep one or two flexible days if you can. Road conditions and weather can sometimes affect timing, especially during busy travel periods.
Yes. Under the revised Nepal trekking provision introduced in 2023, Langtang trekkers are expected to use a licensed guide and obtain the TIMS card through an authorized trekking agency, in addition to the Langtang National Park permit.
You stay in local tea houses during the trek and in a hotel in Kathmandu. Rooms in the mountains are simple, clean, and comfortable enough for trekkers.
Yes, altitude still matters in Langtang. We walk at a steady pace, drink plenty of water, and watch how everyone is feeling as we go higher.
Yes, we strongly recommend insurance that covers trekking in Nepal and emergency evacuation. It gives peace of mind if plans change unexpectedly.
Yes, many first-time trekkers do well here if they prepare with regular walking and basic fitness training before the trip.
Langtang is one of the few major Himalayan treks that combines easy overland access from Kathmandu, strong Tamang cultural identity, real alpine scenery, and a short 7 to 10 day schedule. It feels quieter than Everest and Annapurna while still delivering serious mountain views.
